Coastguard Cottages sit on Daddyhole Plain, a local beauty spot overlooking Torbay; it is a large open area ideal for ball games & kite flying etc. Torquay’s most famous daughter, author Agatha Christie, spent endless summers swimming at nearby Meadfoot Beach and exploring ‘Rock End’, the cliffside walk linking Daddyhole Plain to the imposing ‘London Bridge’, a natural rock arch jutting out to sea, and the picturesque harbour of Torquay.
There are numerous attractions nearby including the steam train to Dartmouth, Paignton Zoo, Babbacome Model Village and the Living Coasts.
Mevagissey is a small, unspoilt working fishing village with a colourful history of boat building and smuggling. Mevagissey refers to the town of St Meva and St Issey, first recorded as a hamlet in 1313. A picturesque, unique 14th Century fishing village located on the South Cornwall Coast at the end of a valley close to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project.
It still retains its traditional character and has a selection of top quality pubs, restaurants, and shops. Its streets are a delightful twisting hodge-podge of whitewashed buildings lining narrow passageways.
